Rory Green is a British-Irish lyric baritone based in Berlin, Germany, and a recent graduate of the Hochschule für Musik 'Hanns Eisler' Berlin and the University of Oxford. He recently completed his time as a member of the Opera Studio at the Norwegian National Opera, where his repertoire included Fiorello in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Robert Baker in Bernstein's Wonderful Town, Tarquinius in The Rape of Lucretia, Papageno in Barry Kosky's The Magic Flute, Sciarrone in Calixto Bieito's Tosca, Harasta in The Cunning Little Vixen (conducted by Edward Gardner) and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte.

 

Rory is committed to new and contemporary music. He recently sang in the world premiere of Anna Berg's Colder Than Stone with the Orchestra of the Norwegian National Opera, conducted by Edward Gardner, and has performed in works including Peter Eötvös' Sleepless (world premiere, Staatsoper Unter den Linden), Marc-André Dalbavie's Melancholie des Widerstands (Staatsoper Unter den Linden), German Alonso's Lovelease (world premiere, Deutsche Oper Berlin) and Daniel Behle's Hopfen und Malz (world premiere, Brandenburger Theater).

 

On the concert platform, Rory will appear as baritone soloist in Carl Orff's Carmina Burana with the Norwegian Wind Ensemble, performing at Fredrikstad Cathedral on 12 and 13 November. He recently toured Austria with the UK's Orchestra for the Earth under conductor John Warner, singing Mahler songs and symphonic excerpts in the concert "What Nature Tells Me" at the Gustav Mahler Hall, Seefeld.

 

He has also sung at houses including the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater and the Brandenburger Theater, and has worked with conductors including Edward Gardner, Robin Ticciati, Marie Jacquot, Peter Eötvös, Maxime Pascal, Paulo Arrivabeni and Oksana Lyniv.

 

He is a prizewinner at numerous competitions, including the International Cesti Competition, the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang and the Felix Mendelssohn Competition.

 

As a recitalist, Rory has performed with pianists including Jonathan Ware and Andrea Baiocchi, made his recital debut at the Wiener Konzerthaus in January 2024, and has since given a song recital with pianist John Lidal at the Norwegian National Opera.
